Permission Granted the book - who do you want to reach with your book ?

Q&A
Q: Where did the idea of the Permission Granted book come from ?
_
A: I was having a discussion one day with a dear friend and associate who does a specific workshop with me and we were bouncing around ideas for a book. The conversation turned to the energy in the workshop and how some participants approach a workshop, questioning whether I felt they were a good fit for the program - not trusting their instinct. I remarked, 'almost like they were asking for permission' - Permission Granted

Q: Who do you hope to reach with your book ?
_
A: In the beginning, people will find it who are looking to enhance their creativity, find more ways to access it more easily, finding personal satisfaction expressing themselves in more unique ways. Ultimately, finding the reader who doesn't know right now that accessing their creativity has life benefits, that it can be a coping strategy to deal with stress, a source of positive energy physically and emotionally.

Q: What started your research on the subject ?
_
A: We're all students of life. Spirituality, philosophy and art with emphasis on accessing the subconscious have always been a focus in mine, finding the zone of all possibilities
Through the years painting and instructing, creativity sessions and workshops has shown me fascinating examples of the vulnerabilities we all have in common, the confidence levels we face as adults, and the limitations we accept, that have no basis in reality.

Candy canes and life lessons - www.permissiongranted.org

Candy canes can teach you a lot about life...

I have a beautiful 4 year old granddaughter and can tell you a 4 year old perspective is, to the point, totally focused on the moment and terribly dramatic. I've also seen this in the 4 year olds we have in the studio involving candy canes from their perspective.

Comparing candy canes to candy canes ...and life
A 4 year old is pretty sure what they want – they want the candy cane,
But only if ...
you don't want them to have it
you don't want them to have it at that particular moment
it's the right color, even though it looked fine a second ago
there's not a lot of choices – what if they pick the wrong one ?
they think the kid next to them has a better flavor and
they're pretty sure the kid's next to them is larger and ...

So, remember that 4 year old you once were ? We haven't changed that much...

Tips on writing - Make time for writing every day

Motivation comes from connection. That connection can be the inner need to share your story with the world, or it can be your caring heart wanting to help - or please - your audience.
Either way, see yourself as a conduit - an empty channel - between the creativity within you and your audience you love. Here are some tips that will help.
  • Record your ideas - either use the voice recorder on your phone, or jot them down - the minute you get them.
  • Make time for writing every day. Read over your ideas and write them out.
  • Re-read great stuff you've read.
  • Find some supportive people and share positive comments on each other's writing.
If none of these work, then you are facing writer's block. You have some inner fear that is keeping you from being yourself and writing your truth and your story. In that case, face it directly.
You can find books and tools to help. Or you can set aside four healthy hours and just write every thought in your head, without censorship, no matter what comes up. I've done it. It works - it's painful, but it works.                             Sid Kemp

If ' we are what we eat' , are 'we not what we think ' ?

Ellen Langer, Called the Mother of 'positive thinking'
To Langer, this was evidence that the biomedical model of the day — that the mind and the body are on separate tracks — was wrongheaded...
and I believe her work is worth a look because, If ' we are what we eat' , are 'we not what we think ' ?

Is it fear of the unknown that keeps you stuck ? Permission Granted the book

snippet from a chapter in my book...
They say that the left brain is like a computer...
everything you've ever seen, heard, experienced is filed away like a software program.

It comes up again and again, as that little nagging voice in your head that often prevents you from acting, because it reminds you of a similar outcome that didn't work for you. If the previous similar situation didn't have a positive outcome, the emotion stored with that experience is likely fear.
The truth is, that little voice is not what you want to be listening to, for a lot of reasons.
It's just stuff. A hoarder brain condition that holds on to stuff, way past its expiration date.
Stuff that no longer serves you, and probably never did. Fear is the number one reason that you don't take chances most of the time. You think it's fear of the unknown, your left brain tells you it's fear of the 'known'.      J. R. Baldini

How much new 'stuff' do you let into your life ?

Before you dismiss new ideas or ancient philosophies consider...
How do you rely on the world around you and how much control do you give up to science, organized religion, authority, etc ?

Science has not eradicated physical or mental illness - they're still 'practicing'...
Organized religion has not eradicated evil
they're still 'practicing'...
Governments have not eradicated violence, poverty or hunger
they're still 'practicing'...
Most of us, know little about our own physical or mental bodies
we're still 'practicing'...
Why not let go of
what you know is not working and
the fear of what might happen
and take a chance in a direction
that could have many possibilities...?
'practice' trusting yourself...
'practice' consciously getting to know yourself...
'practice' having faith in yourself...

It's not about science, religion and governing being extracted from your life - as if they could be,

 It's about you...

(next part 2 - how you can dispel fear )

Neil Diamond on song writing

I asked singer songwriter Neil Diamond recently about his writing . I had read years ago or heard him in an interview say that he wrote ideas and songs using yellow legal pads. I asked if technology had replaced his way of writing.

What's your method of writing ?

Thursday, October 23, 2014

I tweeted Neil Diamond - love to get feedback from other writers

.Fun Twitter happening last night with one of the most prolific songwriters of our times.

Neil Diamond

22h22 hours ago
do you still use yellow legal pads for writing or has technology replaced them ?
I remember reading that he said he scribbled song lyrics on legal pads and with even 2 yr olds today embracing technology, I wanted to know if he had changed his writing habits to be faster, more mobile, etc
here's what Neil Diamond tweeted back to me.

@jbaldini The legal pad is a necessity for me, I can write, cross out and change faster than a computer and doesn't require electricity.
— Neil Diamond (@NeilDiamond) October 23, 2014

My own writing habits have been both in the files on my laptop and the old standby nostalgic composition notebook with a pack of yellow sharpened pencils.

Writers have different rituals they follow.
Some only write a certain time of day.
Some in a certain location.
I knew a writer who had a lucky sweater, if he didn't have it, he didn't write that day.

Share with us... love to hear
What's your MO for writing ?

Permission Granted ...Eckhart Tolle

The present moment is the most precious thing there is.

"People don't realize that now is all there ever is; there is no past or future except as memory or anticipation in your mind."

"...the past gives you an identity and the future holds the promise of salvation, of fulfillment in whatever form. Both are illusions."

"Time isn't precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time — past and future — the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is."

"Don't let a mad world tell you that success is anything other than a successful present moment."

"Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now."

"As soon as you honor the present moment, all unhappiness and struggle dissolve, and life begins to flow with joy and ease. When you act out the present-moment awareness, whatever you do becomes imbued with a sense of quality, care, and love – even the most simple action."

Do you use self imposed deadlines writing your book ?

Trying to finish your book ?

Try to be as consistent as you can with your writing time.
By now, you may have developed a method of writing which may involve
a location, a ritual, silence, being in nature, music ...

The important thing is to bite off one piece at a time and to set a deadline for each phase of your book.

What are some of the methods/s you employ in your writing habits ?

“I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.”  Douglas Adams

start small...end large - Permission Granted - learning to breathe on planet Earth the book

The best way to clear clutter from your life is ...?
Focus is one of the most mystifying things for people to master.
So many distractions and interruptions.

Start small, nothing in your life appeared overnight. It's cumulative. Sometimes I think
it reproduces itself. So very easy to become overwhelmed by a large project.
Break it down and go forward one step each day, while clearing away just one physical thing in your path at the same time . This allows room for new, wonderful things in your life.

One on one marketing - your ideal reader

It's so important to not try and be the pied piper of everyone in the flavor of the month book club.
You've learned to write as if we're talking to one person, now you have to market to that same person.
It's so true, that you all feel your book would be perfect for
  • A
  • B
  • C
and eventually more and more B, C, D, interest groups will find it, but in the beginning,
you have to focus on one segment of the market.
Writing and marketing transformational books crosses and blurs many lines. Just about anyone can learn at least one different thing from any transformational book
Your 'profiled' reader should be pretty clear to you by the time you start your marketing.
You'll know who your ideal reader is.
What kind of lifestyle your ideal reader lives.
What your ideal reader might do for a living, leisure or vacation.
Is that reader a family person, single parent ?
What is it they're looking for in their stage of life ?confidence, validation, inspiration ?
Are they looking to further themself in their career or switch careers ?

Ask yourself, why do they want to buy my book ? And then position your marketing to that
particular individual to help them to find your book.
If your book speaks to parents, look for avenues where parents might be.
Is your book for parents with teens or younger children ?
Be as specific as you possibly can be with your 'marketing voice' to heard by the
people who could benefit the most from your book and the help you are offering them.
Especially the parent group, who have exhausted the methods and failed attempts at modern day parenting, out there actively looking for something, anything. Be sure you're positioned to let them know why you are different and why they should buy your book.

Thanks to D'vorah Lansky and all for the great 30 day Book Marketing Challenge. I hope to keep in contact and continue to be inspired by all of you.

Ready to find your joy again?

The common denominator in my most intense workshops has been a tiny island in Maine for many years. It's a physical location and more significantly a transformation state to learn about yourself.

Participants see this as a travel getaway to a remote place to start an outward adventure and it is.
They believe they'll be learning to touch brush to canvas in a new way - in reality, they'll learn to 'touch' the very core of their being in a most profound way and reconnect to their inward journey.

Recall when you were a child and could get excited about the most simple things - everything became an adventure to you.
This was because everything was new as you learned 'how to breathe on Planet Earth.'

Recall the joy you felt because you were fully participating - every part of your being was involved in what you were doing - experiencing fully -  this is the joy a transformation is about... ( from Permission Granted - learning to breathe on planet Earth )

Maine workshop is almost full

Had a nice chat with a lady from Tennessee this morning.
Her daughter is taking the bar the end of July.
She asked her what she would like to do to unwind afterwards and
she sent her Mom the info for my Maine workshop.
3 spaces remaining...

Transformational workshops based on the book Permission Granted

www.permissiongranted.org

I have been teaching this program now for over 8 years and have a book forthcoming as a program guide and update.
Email I got today...
You have no idea, what your course on Monhegan Island has meant to me. The daily teaching, with a follow up of on-site painting was perfect. Also the fact that you have experience in different media made it so easy to communicate with you about difficulties. The suggestions you made were very helpful.
The sessions with Molly unblocked the creative juices. I was able to produce plein air paintings for the first time in my life. It is still helping me to get to my zone of comfort to be able to paint.
Monhegan itself is as you said a healing rock.
The whole experience was priceless.
This year I will not be able to come, but am looking forward to next year.

Best Regards,
Evelyne
